Episode Overview

On this episode, we spoke with John Hargrave about employing freelancers, running a successful business, and working with clients. He gives us a lot of great tips and tricks, I highly recommend you listen to this episode! The three things John looks for in employees are Quality, Reliability, and Availability. Quality - Do you consistently put out good work? Reliability - Do you say what you are going to do? Availability - Are you able to take on more work?

"Better" is their tagline - they are trying to make continual improvement as people and continual improvement as a company. Better people make a better company.

John talks about his payment structure for contractors, and the importance of paying consistently. Since it is a challenge to get paid as a freelancer, paying consistently and on time makes it easier to work with an employee, and makes the freelancers happier and more willing to work with you.

Tips:

- Choose the payment method that takes the least fees out. - You have negotiating power at the beginning of the assignment that you won't have at the end of the assignment.
