On this episode, we spoke with Sam Dechenne about the all important topic of getting paid. Sam had some really wonderful insight on the topic, as well as some great music by his group Cocek! and The Late Risers.
Sam played trumpet when he was a kid. When he was in high school, he started playing in the metropolitan youth symphony and also started his own brass quintet. He went to Berklee College of Music, where he studied with Tiger Okoshi, Charles Lewis, and Lin Biviano. Sam started playing classical music and now plays all types of music-- jazz, funk, reggae, hip-hop and klezmer. His first professional gig was performing at church at age 17.

1. Some people want to get a jump on their retirement. How old do you need to be in order to start a retirement account?
A. 25 - When you have your a quarter of a century old
B. 18 - Old enough to vote
C. There is no starting age - you can start a retirement account as soon as you have earned income, even as a baby
The most important thing to know about opening a Roth IRA for a child is that they must have earned money during that tax year. You (or the child) can contribute as much as they made, up to the annual Roth IRA limit (currently $5,500)
2. A 401(k) is a type of retirement account, but do you really know where the term 401(k) come from? Which is correct about a 401(k)? A. It was the original title of Bruno Mar’s song 24 Karat Magic, but was later changed because he got hit with a copyright lawsuit.
B. 401 is the area code of financial wonder Able McFable, the inventor of the 401(k). C. It is the section of the IRS code which the type of profit sharing retirement plan is based on.
A 401(k) is a retirement savings plan sponsored by an employer. It lets workers save and invest a piece of their paycheck before taxes are taken out. Taxes aren't paid until the money is withdrawn from the account.
3. GDP is one of the primary indicators to see how the economy does - what does GDP stand for?
A. Gross Dalmatian Puppies - Little Dalmatians who are potty trained B. Gross Domestic Product - The value of all goods and services with a country

Gross domestic product (GDP) is the monetary value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country's borders in a specific time period.
