Why I Started Newly Wealth
I believe that all families should have access to a qualified financial planner. Most traditional firms will focus on assets under management and fees are only based on a percentage invested within the firm. I created Newly Wealth so that I can work with you on you on creating your best financial self, even if you have no assets for us to manage.
We are a fee-only fiduciary financial planner that is passionate and dedicated to helping you achieve your financial dream.
My parents were both professional musicians and made a great living as musician in Hollywood. I wanted to follow their path and studied music at Boston University and graduated right when the economy tanked. Even with a slow economy, I persevered and made a great living as a freelance musician.
I am so grateful for the experience, the friends, and the chance to travel the world. My radio show Freelance Finance talks with many of my friends who shared a stage with me and tells their story.
But after about a decade of freelancing in Boston, I decided to go back to school. I went back to Boston University to study financial planning and learned how to help families by creating meaningful financial plans.
I put extra emphasis in studying taxation, and got my license to represent taxpayers before the IRS (enrolled agent license). An Enrolled Agent is a tax professional who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax return policies. Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards.
My next stop was working at Intuit as one of their Tax Experts. It was a great experience in both the volume of clients I was working with, and also the different types of situations I would have to advise on. We would advise on tax implication for stock options, stock grants, multi-state returns, foreign income exemptions, and many other complex tax situations.
I later moved to a role working as a QuickBooks specialist working with small businesses. I would help businesses set up their books to match their entity type, and make sure everything balanced out and was accounted for.
With all the businesses and individuals I work with, one common theme comes up again and again --- How to Pay for College. It became apparent that most financial advisors and investment managers knew that they it is difficult to pay for college, but few could actually put that in tangible terms.
I decided to collaborate with other like minded advisors, many with decades experience in the field, and trained on the minutiae for college funding, and how that integrates into a comprehensive financial plan.
Since then, helping families navigate college without sacrificing their retirement has been a passion of mine.
I created an independent firm so that I could align myself and my financial planning with your goals, so that we can work together to achieve your life dreams.
